Labor Day at the Zoo

On Labor Day we went to the Utah Hogle Zoo.  It was a beautiful day.  Mark was on call, so we couldn't go far, but we wanted to do something outside.  Lainie went with Mark's parents to Soldier Hollow for a sheep dog handlers competition, so she wasn't with us.  These are a few pictures from the day.  This last picture shows a baby giraffe that had been born on July 30th.  Garrett hasn't been to the zoo since he was a baby.  He had a great time seeing all the animals up close.  I realize that I reference New Orleans A LOT, but I have to say, our trip to the zoo made us miss the New Orleans Audubon Zoo.  It is top notch.  We spent many hot, muggy days at that wonderful zoo.  Hogle Zoo paled in comparison.  It was still a fun way to spend the day together.

  1. Ahhh, I miss Audubon too. We'll still have to make a trip to Hogle sometime! sorry we missed it this last time we were up there.

  2. Fun and memorable family times. We haven't been to the Hogle Zoo for years. We're getting a new exhibit here at the Oregon Zoo called 'Predators of the Serengeti' ~ lions, cheetas and wild dogs. It has been 10 years in the making. It would be fun to go there when you come if we have time.

  3. Yep, I agree. Hogle is no Audubon. It's not bad, but it really doesn't compare with our beautiful New Orleans zoo. Still, it looks like you all had a fun time. I am taking Owen to the zoo for his preschool fieldtrip next week. He can hardly wait!

How cool that Lainie went to a sheep dog handlers competition! We had a sheep dog when I was growing up. Mark's parents are always doing such interesting things!
